Kansas Rep. Boyda Flees From Good News In Iraq

For my neighbors to my west, I think you might need to do something about your freshman representative Nancy Boyda. In a recent Armed Services Committee hearing on Iraq, when retired General Jack Keane related that the "Surge" appears to be working she became so upset that she had to leave the room.

She gave the impression that she would have much rather heard that more of our service men and women were dying than less, what kind of representative is she?

After General Keane left, Rep. Boyda chose to return and said: "As many of us -- there was only so much that you could take until we in fact had to leave the room for a while. So I think I am back and maybe can articulate some things -- after so much of the frustration of having to listen to what we listened to."

Apparently she is also upset that members of the military believe that the Iraq war was the right thing to do. She must think that living under a dictator was better than being free, or maybe it was just Iraqis don't deserve freedom. Her words: "Where is [Gen. Keane] and where is the rest of this military to say this is the right thing to do?"

A frustrated Boyda rebuked the now-absent Keane for describing Iraq, in her own words, as “a place I might take the family for a vacation. "

“Those kinds of comments will, in fact, show up in the media and further divide this country,” Boyda said,” adding, “I hear over and over again that the Marines are at war, the Army’s at war and this country is at the mall.”

Rep. Boyda is just the type of Anti-American Leftist that we must replace if we are going to return to our rightful place in the lead of the worlds nations. Check out these accounts of her actions in the hearing, Redstate's Rep. Boyda's (D-KS) New Iraq Strategy: Flee From Good News and the Politico's Dem walks out on Iraq general's briefing.

More Good News From Iraq, Lowest Death Toll in 8 months

In July, the total number of U.S. causalities reached it's lowest total in eight months, only 74. That's good news, and another piece of hard evidence that the "Surge" is being effective. In addition, Iraq civilian causalities are down by a third. Keep it up, we've got Al Qaeda, its Salafist and Democratic Party allies on the run...

Liberal Bloggers Limit Free Speech - Fox News

The Liberal Bloggers are not happy just running the Democratic Party, now they want to control the Electronic Media as well. They are stepping up their campaign against Fox News Channel, arguably the one network that that isn't already under their control, by pressuring advertisers not to advertise on the network. Recently it was reported that Lowes Inc. has pulled some of their advertising from the network.

MoveOn.org, the Campaign for America's Future and liberal blogs like DailyKos.com are asking their supporters to monitor who is advertising on the network. Once they have gathered that information, an organized phone-calling campaign will begin to pressure advertisers to drop their advertising on the network, said Jim Gilliam, vice president of media strategy for Brave New Films, a company that has made anti-Fox videos.

In addition to pressuring Lowes Inc, the groups have successfully convinced Democratic presidential candidates not to appear at any debate sponsored by Fox News, and are also trying to get Home Depot Inc. to stop advertising there. Take a look at Gateway Pundits: MoveOn & Daily Kos Go On "Anti-FOX News" Campaign Blitz

It seems a little inconsistent that the same groups that openly criticize the Administration for infringing on the rights of terrorists, are actively trying circumvent the freedom of the press by silencing Fox News, a legitimate news outlet.

The groups themselves will deny that they are circumventing the freedom of the press, they admit the Fox News has every right to exist, what they want it to change is what Fox News is reporting. They want Fox News to tow their liberal line just like the other media outlets.

Why now, all of a sudden has Fox News become such a threat?

Perhaps they see the writing on the the wall, after forcing every major voice in the Democratic Party, and the other Media outlets to declare not only that the Iraq War was a mistake, but the War itself is a lost cause.

The General
Petraeus and U.S. military may be double crossing them by turning defeat into victory, take a look USS Neverdock: Iraq - We are Winning, The Belmont Club: An NYT article on Iraq and THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS: THE NEW YORK TIMES SAYS WE'RE WINNING IN IRAQ

Could it be that the Liberal groups need to control what the electronic media outlets are reporting now more ever in order to shape what public will be seeing concerning the Iraq War and they can't afford Fox News not towing the their line.

After all, Democratic Party Leaders and the Electronic Media Talking Heads have all staked their credibility on the failure of the Iraq War, mainly due to pressure from these liberal groups.
They fear success in Iraq, take a look at Gateway Pundit: House Dem Leadership Fears Successes In Iraq, and THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS: WHEN AMERICANS ARE WINNING THE WAR, IT'S A PROBLEM FOR THE DEMS

Its going to take more than a few phone calls to silence us on this one, and the Anti-American forces of the Liberal Left are going to be reviled for what they are.

!! Update !! Home Depot has dropped advertising on Fox News, O Reilly Factor, for more information read Home Depot Dumps O Reilly looks like the campaign has it first victim.

The New York Times - A War We Just Might Win

We already knew this but looks like the word may be actually getting out.

From none other than Michael E. O’Hanlon a senior fellow at the left leaning Brookings Institution. Kenneth M. Pollack is the director of research at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at Brookings, we have a editorial piece that in today's New York Times, A War We Just Might Win.

Just when you think you've got them figured out, and your expecting just another hit piece against the President, and the Military, they come out and say:

"Here is the most important thing Americans need to understand: We are finally getting somewhere in Iraq, at least in military terms. As two analysts who have harshly criticized the Bush administration’s miserable handling of Iraq, we were surprised by the gains we saw and the potential to produce not necessarily “victory” but a sustainable stability that both we and the Iraqis could live with." ... As a result, civilian fatality rates are down roughly a third since the surge began."
Wasn't it last week that the same paper was bemoaning the toll the surge was having on the Iraqi civilians, and they go on,
"We traveled to the northern cities of Tal Afar and Mosul. This is an ethnically rich area, with large numbers of Sunni Arabs, Kurds and Turkmens. American troop levels in both cities now number only in the hundreds because the Iraqis have stepped up to the plate. Reliable police officers man the checkpoints in the cities, while Iraqi Army troops cover the countryside. A local mayor told us his greatest fear was an overly rapid American departure from Iraq."
Looks like the local mayor has been watching CNN, MSNBC and CSPAN. The column continues,
"In war, sometimes it’s important to pick the right adversary, and in Iraq we seem to have done so. A major factor in the sudden change in American fortunes has been the outpouring of popular animus against Al Qaeda and other Salafist groups, as well as (to a lesser extent) against Moktada al-Sadr’s Mahdi Army."
Quick, tell the Democrats who claim al Qaeda isn't in Iraq, and we need to get out of Iraq to find them. Looks like Iraqis have had enough of al Queda killing civilians and have figured out who their real enemy is,
"These groups have tried to impose Shariah law, brutalized average Iraqis to keep them in line, killed important local leaders and seized young women to marry off to their loyalists. The result has been that in the last six months Iraqis have begun to turn on the extremists and turn to the Americans for security and help. The most important and best-known example of this is in Anbar Province, which in less than six months has gone from the worst part of Iraq to the best (outside the Kurdish areas). Today the Sunni sheiks there are close to crippling Al Qaeda and its Salafist allies. Just a few months ago, American marines were fighting for every yard of Ramadi; last week we strolled down its streets without body armor. "
I can wait to see how the Democrats will figure out a way to claim that the surge was their idea, and President Bush need to be impeached for not implementing it sooner. The final sentence of the article should play heavy on their minds,
"But there is enough good happening on the battlefields of Iraq today that Congress should plan on sustaining the effort at least into 2008."
The lefty bloggers aren't going to like that. For a little different take take a look a USS Neverdock: Iraq - We are Winning, The Belmont Club: An NYT article on Iraq
and THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS: THE NEW YORK TIMES SAYS WE'RE WINNING IN IRAQ

McCaskill Votes Against John Doe Amendment

Senator McCaskill today voted with the majority of Democrats to kill the John Doe Amendment from the Sept 11 Security Bill. The John Doe Amendment is meant to protect American Citizens who report usual activity to the authorities from being sued by those who have been reported.

This grows out of the recent incident wherein six Muslim clerics sued passengers aboard a Northwest flight in March who reported them to authorities, leading to their detention. The clerics were cleared but their lawsuit, many lawmakers feared, would discourage future vigilance among the flying public.

Luckily Senator McCaskill's side did not win the vote and the amendment passed 57-39.

But we need to remember that Senator McCaskill would discourage public vigilance over the rights of suspected terrorists.

Legoland Stuck In The Mud??

Ouch... I go out of town for a couple of weeks to work with the Boy Scouts and Legoland goes to pot...

Or as Dave Claflin, vice president of marketing for RED Development put it, Legoland, got stuck in the mud, when he described the status of tax increment financing application for a proposed Legoland theme park in Lee's Summit.

"We still plan on it, but right now, we have to get everything in order," Claflin said. "It's come to a standstill. We sure might be able to pull it out of the mud, but it's going to take a lot more effort."

Lee's Summit's director of development, Greg Foss said RED and Legoland will now have to re-apply for the tax incentive package, which includes consideration by the city's Tax Increment Financing Commission.

Both Claflin and Foss agree that the time frame for when, or if, the proposal comes back to the committee is unknown.

I hope this isn't another instance of a small group of Grinches causing a big enough stink in the newspapers and city council to scare developers away from Lee's Summit. If so, it won't take many more Legolands to convince developers that Lee's Summit is anti-development and not worth the trouble. Lee's Summit is already well below what we should be in terms of development for a city of our size and wealth.

The John Doe Provision

I want to add my voice to the growing chorus of bloggers to stop House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) from trying to kill the amendment that would protect Americans who, in good faith, report suspicious activity that could indicate a terrorist attack. Even though Thompson has repeatedly publicly stated he'd support the measure, even as recent as a press conference with 9/11 families last week.

Call Bennie Thompson immediately and tell him that the John Doe Protections must be included in the 9/11 bill!!

Congressman Thompson's Personal Office: 202-225-5876
Committee on Homeland Security: 202-226-2616

And call Nancy Pelosi and let her know that her Chairman is blocking a key provision that would protect Americans!!

U.S. Press twists the numbers on civilian deaths in Iraq

Do You Believe This Man? The Washington Post Does.

I've been wondering how one news outlet says civilian deaths are down 30% for last month and another says the civilian deaths are up 50%. Evidently it all depends on who is doing the counting, and whether who is doing the counting is favorable to the administration or not. Check out Red States article on How the Washington Post twisted the numbers on civilian deaths in Iraq in it they make the case for how the Washington Post took numbers from radical Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr instead of those from the local authorities or our own military.

If the press can't tell the truth, or don't know the truth then they either should not report anything or not be there.

Immigration - Who Will Enforce the Border?

Based on what Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said recently when interviewed by Chris Wallace of Fox News, all the talk of enforcing the border that occurred prior to the death of the Immigration (Amnesty) Bill was just that, Talk.

When asked about the $4.4 billion that President Bush vowed during the immigration bill debate to spend on border security, Chertoff said that this money was to come from fines paid pursuant to the bill's legalization program, and that therefore funding is no longer available.

Sounds like he isn't taking the defeat of the Senate immigration bill well but what is most troublesome that his feelings are interfering with his agency's willingness to enforce existing laws against illegal immigration as this report suggests.

On the other hand, when asked about the 13 miles of fence that has been constructed and what the delay was, Chertoff responded that you don't build a fence a mile at a time, and promised that by September 140 to 150 miles of fencing will be built.

Considering all we have seen is 13 miles of fence and a lot of talk I have a hard time believing that, or maybe they should have asked them which September he was talking about, September 2007, September 2020, or September 2107. We need to the fence now, not 100 years from now.

Forget trying to get rid of the Attorney General, we need to get rid of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff since he doesn't seem interested in doing his job which is keeping us safe by enforcing the Border. If your looking for malfeasance of duty there it is, not arguing whether or not the Attorney General had the right to fire a few Lawyers.

Chertoff gets a pass on his behavior because no one in Washington, Republican or Democrat is interested in enforcing the laws that they passed. I think it may be time for a house cleaning.

Legoland Lee's Summit - What Is Next?

Seems like Legoland Lees Summit is a popular topic this week. I have been asked two different questions, first, as if I would know, what is RED doing prior to the Council meeting on July 12? And second, why do I think I will like what RED proposes at the next Council meeting?

First, what is RED doing prior to the Council meeting on July 12? I don't have first hand knowledge, but I do read the papers, and in this weeks edition of the Lee's Summit Tribune, "Revamped Legoland on the way". Seann McAnally states, "RED Development will make a formal presentation on its proposed Legoland theme park - the largest tax increment financing application in the city's history - on July 12". That makes sense that it is the largest since at a total project cost of $770 million it is the biggest development in Lees Summit history, and the tax increment financing process has only been in common use for projects like this for ten or fifteen years.

In the article, Mayor Karen Messerli is quoted as saying "RED took all the public hearing information and has tried to be responsive. They are actively trying to work on the ratio of public to private dollars. That's a very high priority." To me RED is bending over backwards to make this project happen, they are trying to revise the project so that the investors pay a bigger part of the tab and the public less to mute the criticisms of local Grinches. They are even willing to consider alternate locations to ease the concerns of fussy city councilmen. RED is trying it's best to bring as many people as possible together to make this project possible, not at all like the unfeeling corporate entity that they have been portrayed as, by some of the project detractors.

And that brings me to the second question, why do I think I will be in favor of the project when the new numbers are finally revealed? First, we have a developer trying to bend over backwards to pull people together and make the project possible. Next, big companies like RED and Merlin Entertainment don't go into projects thinking they will be failures. They do a lot of demographic studies and they know that the area can support the project before they propose it, but they also know just how far they can go and still make a profit.

Now, I would like to ask all those who are against the project, how they know that they they will be against it after the new numbers are finally revealed? What would they say if there were no TIFs involved in the project. Some detractors may say they would now be in favor of the project, but I'll bet that it would not make a bit of difference to the majority of the projects opponents. There is a group of people in Lees Summit that is against development in Lees Summit at all costs, my wife calls them "Grinches". And I have to say she has pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Think about it, in Dr Seuss's, "The Grinch that stole Christmas", the Grinch a very unhappy character that sneaks in, in the dead of night and steals all the Christmas presents from the residents of Whoville. In Lees Summit we have an unhappy group of residents, working behind the scenes, to deprive the children of Lees Summit of "Pets, Fireworks and Legoland", don't believe me check out www.lsmo.com's post in the Rant and Rave section Pit Bulls...Fireworks...Legoland

I urge the City Council to take an open mind to the meeting when RED unveils their revised proposal, they are bending over backwards in their efforts to make the project acceptable. Don't let our local Grinches steal Legoland from our children without good reason. And don't be afraid of what our State Representatives will say, they all have constituents with children as well.

In Honor Of 4th Of July - A Look Back - MLB's Rick Monday Saves The American Flag

April 25, 1974, Dodger Stadium, Bottom Of The 4th Inning, Cubs vs. Dodgers.

Cubs Center Fielder Rick Monday sees two fans leave the stands, run across the field, and in the middle of left field, they through down an American Flag and try to light it on fire. His first thoughts were that this is wrong, and he begins to run toward the two. The first match fails to light the flag when they touch it, and they reach to light a second. Before they can put the second match to the flag, Rick grabs the flag and takes it off the field.

What the video doesn't show is what happens afterwards. The event brought silence to Dodger Stadium until the two fans were escorted from the field by security. Then from the silence one part of the stadium begins to sing "God Bless America", it rapidly spreads through out the entire stadium, until everyone in the stadium is singing "God Bless America".

If it were to happen today, would we see the same result?

One of the top moments in Major League Baseball - God Bless America - And Happy 4th of July!

In Iran, Venezuela And China People Are Protesting For Freedom

The Gateway Pundit has been doing a great job lately of documenting the continuing fight by people in Iran, Venezuela And China for freedom in their countries. I only wish the mainstream media in the United States would do half as good a job. Not everyone out there thinks the U.S. and Freedom is evil.

Freedom is worth fighting for an despite what others would have us believe we are not the only country where people will fight to attain it. And I applaud Gateway Pundit for letting us know.
